Question: Could i collect unemployment if i quit my job?
(Posted by: CapAIM on 2010-03-19 04:36:42)
About two months ago, I started what is supposed to be a six month temporary job, working fulltime as an administrative assistant. In addition to this and while I've been unemployed, I've been going to grad school to earn a Masters Degree in Education. After this temporay position ends, I have one more course to take that is only being offered this year during the summer followed by a semester of student- teaching, which is another full- time commitment. However, I recently learned from my employer that my six month assignment might be extended, which would leave me no choice but to quit once the summer comes along. Given these circumstances, Is it possible for me to collect unemployment if I were forced to quit my job ? |

No. If you quit, you're not entitled to unemployment. If you're fired, you are. |

No. A volutary quit, for any reason, disqualifies you for unemployment. Unemployment is for those who lose a job through no fault of their own, due to lack of work or other circumstances. It's not for temporary jobs, or for students who quit to take a class. |

No, for two reasons. First, because you're leaving your job voluntarily, and second, because you won't be actively seeking re-employment and be willing to accept a new job if it's offered to you. You weren't planning to be working during that time anyway, so you don't get to take unemployment funds just because you're going to be lucky enough to be offered a job that you don't want. |

Usually if you are gainfully employed and leave of your own choice you do not qualify for assistance. If however you have a 6 month contract then at the end of the six months you are entitled to terminate that contract and that is not considered a breach. |

You can only collect unemployment if you get laid off for lack of work or no fault of your own , so if you quit you cannot collect. If i was you i would start looking for a p/ t job for the hours You are not at school. |

No. if you quit your job yourself then you cant. In my state, one may apply for unemployment benefits after being off from work for at least 6 weeks, even after resignation from the job. But there is a minimum length of service time to the employer required to be eligible. Check with your states Unemployment Office. |

Yes you can collect unemployment even if you quit. I quit a job to move in with my boyfriend and I reported to the unemployment office and after about a week of reviewing my claim, they awarded me over 8k! I get $282 every week, so yes it is possible |
