[...] Jumping back into the job marketIt's fair to say the last 12 months haven't been the best of times,…imes, economically speaking: the worst financial crisis in recent memory has kicked off a genuinely global downturn – pushing some of the biggest names in business into bankruptcy – and while some parts of the world appear to have moved into a recovery phase, others remain well and truly depressed with little sign of improvement in the short term at least. But behind such macro-facing phrases as "global downturn" and "recovery phase" lies the human element, the millions of personal tales of struggle and toil which are the true face of the recession. In every sector, in every geography, men and women – some of whom have been in steady jobs for decades – have been driven out into the cold and, for many, unfamiliar environment of unemployment. Even in a growth field such as shared services many swingeing cuts have had to be made by firms desperately trying to keep above water – and, of course, for many organizations the advantages posed by outsourcing, already tempting in terms of their long-term bottom-line benefits, are proving too alluring to resist, resulting in yet more layoffs and role reallocations. Dear Jeff,
Hello, my name is James and I’m currently promoting one of the newest titles for Career Press Publications and would like to offer you an early copy for review for The Job Market Blog. I think you will find this book to be a great topic of discussion and of interest to your readers. I’ve included some information about the book as well as my contact information below. Thank you in advance for your time.
Never Apply for a Job Again
Darrell W. Gurney
Remember when searching for a job meant opening the newspaper to the classifieds, red pen in hand? More recently, it has entailed scouring online job boards or company websites. Yet eighty percent of jobs are filled before they are ever advertised, even in our high-tech, low-touch world. Job seekers want to know where to go and how to reach out best to find work in an all too volatile economy.
In his new book, Never Apply for a Job Again: Break the Rules, Cut the Line, Beat the Rest, Darrell W. Gurney shares the “stealth” networking skills he’s taught for 25 years as a renowned career consultant.
With special emphasis on networking, Never Apply for a Job Again teaches readers how to:
- Devise compelling ways to meet influential people
- Determine whom to talk to and where to go for connections
- Use the power of ego to gain another’s favor
- Stay awake to opportunities at all times
Old-fashioned yet innovative networking wins hearts, minds, and opportunities for the savvy job seeker or career expansionist. When one becomes “question-able” in an area of passionate interest, and follows certain “stealth” rules of networking engagement, the personal relations developed can effect entire career changes. Gurney reminds us that:
- An ounce of research is worth a pound of job search
- You can never have too much information…and the higher the altitude the better
- If you treat someone like an expert, they will open their door
- Being interested rather than interesting wins friends and influences people
- Face to face trumps online connections anytime
We hope that you will consider this new book as a resource for your site and are happy to provide you with a review copy if you so desire. Opportunities exist for you to take an excerpt from the book for use on your site (with pre-approval) or for you to review for your audience. If you are interested in a review copy please get back to us with a full mailing address and contact.
Many thanks for your time.

Definitely consider that that you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the internet the simplest factor to understand of. I say to you, I definitely get irked whilst folks consider concerns that they plainly do not understand about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing with no need side-effects , folks could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you
