How do I handle severence pay period after a layoff on a job application?
I received full pay and benefits after a lay off which included the Notice Period, Vacation Period, and Severence Pay Period. The total length of paid time with benefits lasted over 4 months. Can I include this time on a job application as my employment period, reducing the appearance of total time off?

I am a business owner that operates a machine shop. My electrical bill might force me to layoff 2 employees?
They have families and kids. I am trying to cut cost instead of laying off people. Please help me. Is there an alternative energy I can use? We are Pacific NW based. Fuel cell is expensive. Solar energy is not an option we hardly have sunshine in our area and it's too costly. Any ideas? Please help.

Am I required to give reason for layoff in writing?
I am in MN, we just laid off an employee due to a decrease in workload in his area. He has requested a reason for being laid off in writing. I have no problem giving this to him but would like to hold it until he returns his uniforms. Am I legally required to provide this letter or is it okay for me to require the items returned for him to get the letter? He was the only employee laid off at this time, we have about 75 employees and he was the junior employee in the department.I am asking if I am legally required to provide the letter not how to do it. Thanks As I said, the employee is holding uniforms that will cost us about $300 to replace. I have already written the letter but would like to hold it until we get the uniforms back.
What is the best way to file unemployment if the layoff was in CT, but the highest quarter of wages was in PA?
I just got laid off and am filing for unemployment benefits for the first time. I moved to CT in May and got laid off by my employer here. Previously I worked and lived in PA and had a higher paying job.I filed a claim in CT and they gave me a benefit weekly amount, which they said would be payable retroactively upon confirmation of my wages from the State of PA, which were higher than my wages earned in CT. The woman who I filed my initial claim with told me I would get checks for my work in CT until the PA wages were confirmed at which time I would get larger checks and recieve the back amount. I put my claim in on Sunday and the CT system told me that I will not recieve an unemployment check until PA gets back to them. The man said this could take up to three weeks, at which point the back checks would come at once. I don't know what to do. I have children and I can't go three weeks without any income. Would it be faster or better to close the CT claim and file in PA? How does the CT unemployment system expect someone to not have any income for three weeks? Was this a mistake? Any help would be MUCH appreciated

Is there anything I can do about an impending layoff?
I have a pretty good feeling a few people are out for me and they're setting me up to be laid off at work assigning me difficult projects, trying to make me loose my motivation I work very hard, etc . Is there anything I can do to either head them off or get something good out of this before it actually happens?
When a layoff happens who is the first to go?
The company that I work for in Texas is offering a 26 weeks supplemental pay to employees over 10 years, in which I qualify. I work part time and am considering if I should take this? Should I stay in hopes that I will be kept on? When a company does a layoff who is the first to go? I do not have medical with the company only dental vision which I pay for. How will taking the offer and unemployment go together if I were to take the 26 weeks supplemental pay? I have not ever experienced a situation such as this and need every advise I can get from those have been through this or is going through this. I appreciate and thank everyone who respond to my questions.
Can we get a mortgage quickly despite a layoff for a few months and now a new job in same field?
My husband has been a construction foreman in Boston for many years, then work slowed and he has been laid off for a few months. We are relocating to TN and we're told there is work there for him by the union hall . Our house here is closing in 4 weeks Halloween and we plan to stay in an extended stay hotel for a little while until we can secure a small mortgage of about $70k $100k. We are putting about $90k down. We want to get into a house ASAP, as we have 2 little boys and a dog and I have a home based business I need to get back up and running. I have been in business for 5 years, but it's not enough to qualify us for much. If my husband gets a job in the same field as before, can we apply for a mortgage right away or do we need to wait a few weeks? I'd really love to be in a house by Christmas Thank you.
Volunteer Layoff and Unemployment?
My company is going to layoff a large number of individuals. I have volunteered to take the layoff but with a couple of conditions.1. That they pay me my vacation time that is owed to me2. That they give me a months salary as severanceIf they accept these terms, can I collect unemployment once this has been paid out.I stated in my letter to the company that this would save my coworkers jobs and I had planned to move in three to four months as well. Did I screw up my chances to receive unemployment.
