Is there any law in ca. that the company has to give us a notice off a layoff? Do we fall under the warn bill were they haft to give a 60 day notice?
Collect unemployment? 1st job quit, 2nd job-layoff?
Hello, I was wondering if I were to quit my job with my previous employer not giving the 2 weeks notice and start working for a new employer which ends in a layoff say 2 or 3 months later, will I be able to collect unemployment? I believe for unemployment you have to be with your current employer for at least 6 months before you are able to file for benefits. Would this situation due to not being with new employer long, go back to the previous employer who could possible deny my benefits due to the fact of just quiting.Thank you,WonderingHello Jim, I don't know how you can state your comment " You seem to have a rather immature and irresponsible attitude towards employment insofar as you don't appear to take it at all seriously." Jim you don't know the whole story of what is going on with the previous employer. When your finding yourself frustrated, stressed and mistreated on a daily bases you will go elsewhere. The reason I was asking about 2nd employer is due to the area I'm in I have heard a few times where ppl have moved on only to find themselves layed off. I'm not being immature or irresponsible about the situation, just want to know what I'm up against.ThanksThanks Everyone for your response. At least I have some idea of how this situation is handled.Thank you again
How can you find out if a company is blacklisting you after a layoff?
Despite the fact that I've started my own business I need to know something. I am a former human services employee and I moved to another town recently, I was unable to gain employmentin my field and despite the economy I had many contacts to get me back to work. But something didn'tcompute in my search, I am very realistic about my prospects but I would get two great interviews undermy belt, only to find out that I was out for the count. I didn't always agree with the management staff of my last employer and I'm skeptical about their feedback to prospective employers.
Is this a sign that my company is having a layoff?
I work for a small medium size family owned company and I have worked their for a long time.BACKGROUND OF COMPANY 50 75 employees office and warehouse workers , upper management consists of both " family" members and " friends." Nepotism, brown nosing, and favoritism is rampant. Management seems to favor employees who are not " threats" to their positions, regardless of whether or not they are smart or competent.Anyway, a HUMAN RESOURCES ADMINISTRATOR was hired recently. It made me curious because the human resources director currently happens to be a family member of the owner of the company. I found this to be a " surprising" hire simply because my company does not usually hire upper management personnel who are neither their " friends" or much less " people they can control." And he made an immediate impact by arranging for a one on one meeting with each employee. The meeting, conducted in private, asks for each employee to discuss their JOB DESCRIPTION, THEIR IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR, and EMPLOYEES THEY SUPERVISE for middle managers .I do not know what the financial state of the company is because upper management does not disclose that information to regular employees. The workload is busy, at least in my department, but I cannot speak for other departments. For all those who have experience in this arena, is this a sign of company downsizing? Again, I've worked for my company for a very long time, and this has never happened.FYI, if a layoff did occur, I would not be so uneasy about it because I find it hard to attain professional growth at a place where you would have to play politics in order to advance.
Will Texas Workforce pay me even if they don't get layoff information back from my previous employer.?
Long story short, I was eligible for renewed benefits after my year was up. They now have to reinvestigate the reason why I was laid off from my 2 previous employers. The site still shows that they have not received this information going on 3 weeks now . They do say that I will receive my first payment on the 22nd. But it doesn't say " when we receive this info from your employers" . So, will I still get paid on the 22nd even if the information hasn't been sent in to TWC? This is all reduntant and obsurd that they have to reinvestigate this information since they already did it twice last year......
What do you say to a co-worker that is layed off due to massive layoffs at work?
My company is in the process of laying more people off within the next few months. How do you respond to your co workers when they are let go and you end up keeping your job?
Job termination after layoff?
Can an employer call and leave a voicemail that they want you back to work during layoff? My employer called after I was laid off for 3 months and left a message that he wanted me to come back to work and to call him by 2pm that day or he was filing my termination papers. I didn't get the message until the next day so I never called.I haven't heard from him since. Now another 4 months later he's contesting my unemployment benefits. can he legally call me back to work by leaving a message? it wasn't even my phone they called, it was my wife's. They also wanted me to go back after a pay cut was put into effect and I would have made less per hr then when I got laid off. So couldn't I have refused anyway and still gotten unemployment?
Is this considered a layoff and what are my rights?
I work in TN and my employer of 8 years located in FL called and said that they were offering me a position in FL and that my out of state position was eliminated. I told him on the phone there is no way I could relocate nothing in writing yet though and he said my last day would be the end of next week. Am I entitled to severance or unemployment or anything? This was quite a shock. Three other people were also let go, only one of them was out of state besides me. Thanks for your help.

Stay in touch after layoff?
I was laid off a few months ago. How do I stay in touch with my former coworkers? I tried emailing them, but nobody emailed me back. I thought about calling, but I don't want to be intrusive. I thought that I'd be able to stay in touch with these people, so it is weird that nobody talks to me. Is that normal? Thank you.
In California: Will requesting to be taken off layoff list (to cash out 401K) affect collecting unemployment?
I was laid off a while ago, I am now looking to cash out the 401K and this can be done only if I request to be taken off the lay off list request for termination . If I go ahead with the request, will this affect me receiving unemployment checks or is there consequences to that within UI?If I were EDD, I would consider it as closing the door on an opportunity that might come in the future. Is that how EDD view it?The main question is If I request to be terminated so the company takes me off the layoff list, will that affect my eligibility to collect unemploymentThank you for the heads up... To file a lawsuit, How can I prove that HR advised me to requested to be terminated? How do I make my case strong?
