If I'm getting laid off with a severance package along with 4 weeks pay for each year (2 years) when can i?
apply for unemployment benefits? some people tell me right away, some say I can apply but it wont start until a month later and others say i can't apply till 2 months later.oh and if it helps or makes a difference I'm in California.oh and i have 8 hours left in floating holidays. and about 56 hours in vacation time.

I work in a private hospital and been employed for 20 years and has been the nursing director of a nursing dept. I have been put on MLOA by my doctor due to some health issues. I received a phone call from my boss our chief nursing director that she is laying me off. Is this a form of discrimation due to my disability and on being on a medical leave of absence? I am the only management person that is being laid off.

I worked for a company which paid into Unemployment. I worked there for almost 8 years. I put in my two weeks notice when I received a route being self employed, this only lasted for 3 months and I was laid off due to loss of funding. I filed for unemployment from my company of 8 years, I have received unemployment for the last month and a half, but now they have fought it and because I was self employed they say I am unqualified due to being self employed. They told me if there was a good enough reason for quitting I could still do it. Is there a better way to argue this? I left my job because the management was terrible, I had to work with a manager who popped Vicadin like it was breath mints probably about 8 a day and the other manager is an alcoholic. I hadn't received a raise in over 2 years. It was too much for someone to handle.

I work as a contract employee with about 200 other people at my company located in Plano, TX. We were given notification that we may lose our big and only contract at the end of August. We are all now in a wait and see mode. One of my coworkers said the other day that he read that if it was a mass layoff which is anything over 50 people we can get up to 92 weeks of unemployment and that the rules were different for people laid off from a mass layoff other than if one or two people were laid off.Is this true. Can the people who were let go in a mass layoff draw unemployment for a longer period of time?

I've been "laid off" for 5 months and can't get my 401k unless i quit which will terminate unemployment! Help!?
My company has no intention of hiring me back they even filled my position , but when i called them back they say to get my 401k which i need now to pay my bills their attorney needs me to officially quit. Laid off from old job, got COBRA and work as an consultant but need to leave. Can I keep COBRA?
Long story short. I was with a big company and got laid off. I got elected to start COBRA to continue my health care. I then got a job as an independent contractor consultant no benefits and I need to pay estimated taxes no benefits etc . If I leave this job, can I keep COBRA? My current job has no benefits but I am looking to change careers so I will not be at my current job for long.
